Who we are
Fenix Rocket Team is more than just a student project—it’s a movement driven by passion, innovation, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. We are a multidisciplinary team of aspiring engineers, scientists, and visionaries from two of Portugal’s greatest universities: University of Coimbra (UC) and University of Beira Interior (UBI). United by our passion for aerospace, we focus on the design and construction of high-powered rocketry systems, pushing the boundaries of what's possible in rocketry and space exploration.
Our team is structured for success. At the core, our board members ensure smooth coordination and strategic vision:
Team Leader – Oversees the entire team, identifying challenges and fostering a culture of innovation and perseverance.
Managers – Ensures efficient project execution, resource management, and timeline optimization.
Systems Engineer – Integrates all subsystems, defines the CONOPS, and validates critical tests to guarantee mission success.

Beyond leadership, our subsystem teams specialize in key areas of rocketry: Avionics, Recovery, Payload, Propulsion and Structures. Each subsystem is composed of skilled coordinators and dedicated members who work together to turn ambitious ideas into reality.
At Fenix Rocket Team, we don’t just build rockets, we build the future. Our commitment to research, innovation, and hands-on experience prepares us to compete on an international level and contribute to the ever-evolving field of aerospace. We are here to break barriers, redefine limits, and inspire the next generation of space pioneers.

First
Rocket
Fénix Rocket was our first major challenge—and the project that launched our team. Built entirely from scratch, it was designed to reach 3 km altitude, carry a scientific payload, and be powered by a custom solid-propellant motor developed in-house. Despite being a newly formed team, we took on the ambitious task of designing and manufacturing all major subsystems ourselves, including avionics, recovery, and propulsion.

Just a week before the European Rocketry Challenge (EuRoC) 2022, our motor suffered a catastrophic failure during static fire testing. A second attempt confirmed unresolved issues that made a launch impossible within the competition window. It was a devastating setback—but not the end of our journey.

We chose to attend EuRoC anyway. We brought our rocket, our documentation, and our story. We engaged with judges, industry professionals, and fellow teams, proving our dedication and resilience. Fénix Rocket didn’t fly—but it marked the beginning of everything that followed. We left stronger, more connected, and more determined than ever.
Our history
The Fenix Rocket Team was founded in March 2021, born from the ambition to push the limits of student rocketry and establish a strong presence in the aerospace sector. Though we are a young team, we are fueled by determination, innovation, and the drive to make an impact.

From the very beginning, our mission has been clear: to bring the excitement of rocketry to the academic communities of Beira Interior and Coimbra, inspiring the next generation of space enthusiasts and future aerospace professionals. We are not just following a trend—we are actively shaping the future of rocketry in Portugal.

While our journey as a team is just beginning, our members bring valuable experience from prestigious aerospace projects, including STRATOSPOLCA and participation in the Airbus Sloshing Rocket Workshop (2019), where our members were part of the winning team. This expertise, combined with our relentless commitment to learning and innovation, positions us to compete at the highest level.
